Southend Irish Association
The Southend
Irish Association has been in existence for almost 50 years
and
was born out of a need by the
Irish community in Southend
to meet regularly in an atmosphere
of common interest bonded by a common Irish heritage.
Founded in the 1950s, the S.I.A. provided a crucial focal point
or
Irish emigrants who arrived in this part of Essex
in the years following the second world war.
With them came their culture and their love of Irish music,
song and dance.
The Association
is a non profit-making organisation that arranges
events promoting
traditional music, song and dancing skills,
with the emphasis
on ‘good craic’!
It is non political and non sectarian.
